Presto! It’s Music Magic Publishing...

The Presto! It's Music Magic method series each are designed as all-inclusive, holistic approaches to teaching piano, voice, band, and other solo instruments to beginning students.

Our approach to teaching music can be used successfully with children, youth, and adults. It can be used successfully with students who have never had a music lesson, and with students who have had some lessons but are missing background information, are unable to read music, or have other gaps in music theory, musical understanding, or technical skill development.

Presto! It’s Music Magic method series are comprehensive. They contains lessons, theory, technique, and performance pieces.

  • Lessons are sequenced in a way that makes logical sense to a beginning learner. Each topic is introduced using clear, straight-forward, easy-to-read words, while using the language of music. Concepts and skills build on each other in a careful structure that is coherent and purposeful; they are not thrown out haphazardly, and students are not overwhelmed with too many new ideas at once.

  • Lessons are designed so that students develop technical facility while they learn to read music. Efforts to learn to read music will not hinder a student’s ability to learn to play music or to sing. Arrangements of songs and pieces are developmentally appropriate, interesting, drawn from diverse cultures, genres, styles, and they sound good.

  • Lessons strive to teach the whole student as a well-rounded musician, in order to facilitate thorough musical development at the piano, instrument, or voice. While learning traditional music notation, students also embark upon ear training, sight singing (including solfege), and rhythmic understanding – skills that will become more and more useful as students advance in reading, playing, improvising, and even composing music.

Best wishes to you and your students as each one begins their musical journey!

About the Author

My name is Dennis Frayne, and I am a pianist, teacher, composer, conductor, music director, and publisher. I teach students of all ages and levels, both privately in my home studio in Lake Forest, CA, and publicly in the local school districts.

It is an exciting time to be involved in music! Music students can choose many paths to success and can participate in a wide variety of activities and events including lessons, camps, concerts, recitals, music festivals, auditions, exams, master classes, and competitions. I believe music is for everyone, and everyone can make music part of their lives, whether it is for their career, for school, for church, or for pure enjoyment and personal satisfaction.

Music provides us opportunities for self-expression, music offers us unique challenges that can strengthen us in other areas of our lives and studies, and music results in positive experiences and rewards that can last a lifetime. Music is a miraculous gift for ourselves, for our children, our friends, and our audiences. Music heals, music connects people, music entertains, and music contributes to spiritual fulfillment and joy.

Throughout my career, I have taught and coached a great number of children from different backgrounds, including some that are highly gifted. I also have taught and coached many youth and adult students, including beginners, advanced performers, and music teachers.

In addition to teaching, I am also an active performer. I enjoy playing solo recitals, private parties and events, church services, and I accompany vocal and instrumental performers, choirs, and musical theater. And, I am a working composer, arranger, and publisher of music curriculum and vocal and instrumental method books, including the Presto! It’s Music Magic method series, which students use in my studio and classrooms.
